Language learning platform

A language platform for real teaching — not Duolingo gamification

Duolingo and Babbel are great consumer apps, but they are not a place to run a class. Language schools, independent tutors, and corporate L&D teams need a platform where a teacher can run live conversation drills, assign homework, track progress against a CEFR target, and hand out a certificate of completion. Classentra is that platform — live + blended, with the conversation-drill tool, gradebook, and attendance built in.

What language teachers + schools deal with

Consumer apps replace the learner. They don't replace the teacher.

Self-study apps like Duolingo, Babbel, and Memrise have raised consumer expectations for what 'learning a language' looks like — short, gamified, mobile, daily streaks. They are also useless for what a language teacher actually does: live conversation, structured grammar feedback, error correction, written-assignment grading, and helping a learner pass a CEFR-aligned exam. A teacher who tries to run a real class on top of a self-study app is fighting the tool.

Most teachers end up stitching Zoom + Google Docs + Calendly + a payment link, with a WhatsApp group as the homework-reminder layer. It works until the cohort grows past about a dozen learners, and then attendance, grading, and parent (or HR-buyer) reporting all collapse into spreadsheets.

Classentra is the alternative: a live-first language LMS where the teacher runs the class, the platform handles the operational layer (attendance, grading, certificates, billing), and the conversation-drills tool gives learners the spaced repetition that self-study apps do well — without losing the teacher in the middle.

What language teachers + schools get

Six things a language teaching platform should ship

Every feature below ships today. Language schools running over 250 active learners or selling to corporates should talk to sales about the Company tier (SSO, custom DPA, multi-region hosting).

Live conversation drills

Native conversation-drill tool inside the live session — speaking-pair rotations, target-vocab prompts, teacher-side error tagging, and a per-learner CEFR-aligned progress score. Pulls double duty as both the live activity and the homework-replay surface.

Live + blended cohort classes

Native Daily / LiveKit sessions for the live half, self-paced reading + listening + writing for the rest. Recordings land back in the course library so absent learners can catch up before the next session. Attendance auto-captures.

Gradebook + CEFR rubrics

Built-in rubrics for the four CEFR skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) at A1–C2 levels. Grades flow into a single learner record. Hand out a certificate of completion at the end of a cohort, or export the gradebook to CSV for an institution to ingest.

Multi-teacher schools

Add co-teachers, assistants, and class observers. Each learner sees one timetable; each teacher sees the cohorts they own. The Team tier covers a typical small language school (50 active learners); the Company tier scales to a multi-campus or franchise model.

Bilingual product UI

Ship the product UI in the learner's preferred locale (en, fr-CA, es shipped; more queued) without forcing the teacher to author content twice. Especially relevant for ESL/FSL programs where the learner UI should be in their native language while the course content is in the target language.

Public pricing, learner-paid or school-paid

Charge learners directly (Stripe Connect), or invoice the school / corporate buyer. Free for solo teachers up to 50 learners; Team tier for small schools; Company tier for corporate L&D buyers who need SSO, audit logs, and SCORM ingest. No multi-year contract.

FAQ

Common questions about running a language program on Classentra

Is Classentra a replacement for Duolingo?
No — and we don't want to be. Duolingo is a self-study consumer app. Classentra is a platform for the teacher: live classes, conversation drills, gradebook, attendance, certificates. Many language schools recommend their learners use Duolingo or Anki for vocab drills outside the live cohort, and then run the actual teaching inside Classentra.
Can I use this for 1:1 tutoring as well as cohort classes?
Yes. Classentra supports 1:1 sessions, small cohorts, and large cohort classes inside the same workspace. Many independent tutors run a mix — a few 1:1 learners plus one or two recurring cohort classes — and bill them all through Stripe Connect with no extra setup.
What languages do you support in the UI?
Product UI ships in en, fr-CA, and es today, with more locales queued. There's no restriction on what language you teach — the course content, video, and conversation drills can be in any language, regardless of the learner-facing UI locale.
Can I align my courses with CEFR levels?
Yes. The gradebook ships CEFR-aligned rubrics (listening, reading, writing, speaking at A1–C2). You can override the labels for ACTFL, JLPT, HSK, or your school's internal level system. Certificates of completion render the level your cohort targeted.
Can I sell to a corporate L&D buyer who needs SSO and SCORM?
Yes, on the Company tier. We support SSO (SAML + OIDC), SCORM-1.2 ingest, audit-log export, and signed bespoke DPAs. Corporate buyers running language training as part of internal mobility, expatriate onboarding, or customer-success training typically deploy on Company. Talk to sales.
Can I migrate from italki, Preply, or Lingoda?
Marketplace migrations are different from LMS migrations — most teachers leaving italki or Preply do so to take the learner relationship off-marketplace. Classentra is the off-marketplace product: your own storefront, your own pricing, your own students, your own gradebook. CSV imports for learners, courses, and gradebook. Talk to sales if you're migrating a multi-teacher school.
