Independent and charter schools live in a procurement gap. PowerSchool, Canvas, and Schoology priced themselves for district contracts — annual seat minimums, multi-year commitments, integration projects that need an IT vendor. A 200-student independent academy doesn't have a CIO or a quarterly procurement cycle. The sales call dies on the second question.
FACTS and Omnivox are the alternative: traditional SIS tools bolted to a thin learning layer. They handle billing and enrollment well; the LMS half is a tab in a tab. Common questions from private schools
- Are you a replacement for PowerSchool / FACTS / Omnivox?
- No — those are SIS tools (tuition, admissions, enrollment, billing). Classentra is the LMS half (classes, gradebook, attendance, parent reports). Most private schools we work with pair Classentra with whatever SIS they already use. If you're starting from scratch, you can run with Classentra alone until tuition complexity warrants a separate SIS.
- Can we use Classentra for our hybrid (in-person + online) schedule?
- Yes. Live + blended is the default operating shape. Run morning blocks in-person with attendance taken on Classentra; run afternoon blocks live online with auto-attendance from the session. Materials, gradebook, and parent reports stay in one workspace regardless of the modality of any given class.
- Are you FERPA / COPPA compliant for under-13 students?
- Classentra runs under a PIPEDA-aligned + GDPR-aligned DPA on every tier and signs a FERPA-compliant DPA on the Company tier. COPPA mode (no marketing emails to minors, parent-consent gating on signup, age-gated AI features) is a Company-tier toggle. Request the K-12 packet before signup so we can pre-configure your tenant.
- Can families pay tuition through Classentra?
- Classentra handles per-course or per-cohort payment via Stripe Connect (Pro + Business tiers). For monthly tuition billing, payment plans, and financial-aid workflows we recommend pairing with FACTS or your existing SIS. Tuition-billing is on our Phase 3 roadmap; not built yet.
- Do you integrate with Clever or ClassLink for rostering?
- Clever / ClassLink rostering is a Company-tier add-on. Most private schools under 500 students use the bulk CSV invite + per-term refresh — faster to operate than an integration when your enrollment changes once or twice a year.
- How long does setup take?
- A small school (one campus, under 200 students) is live within a week. Larger schools or hybrid schedules take 2–3 weeks. There's no implementation partner required. A head of school can configure courses, roster from CSV, and onboard teachers from the documentation alone — but the Company tier ships with a named CSM if you want help.
