LMS for the UK

A UK-first LMS. UK GDPR + ICO posture. GBP pricing.

Most managed LMS platforms run a single US-centric privacy posture and quote in USD. UK schools, training providers, and independent teachers end up writing the procurement paperwork themselves and absorbing the FX. Classentra ships UK GDPR-aligned data handling, an ICO-ready data-processing agreement, GBP-native checkout, and optional EU/UK data residency on the Company tier — set up in 5 minutes, no multi-year contract.

What UK teaching teams deal with

American LMSs ship a US privacy posture, then ask the UK customer to bridge the gap

Most managed LMS vendors started in the US and only later wrote a UK GDPR addendum. The default privacy policy talks about CCPA, HIPAA, and FERPA — and the UK GDPR + Data Protection Act 2018 + ICO guidance has to be patched in via a 12-page addendum your DPO has to redline. For a UK academy, training provider, or independent teacher running a few cohorts, that's an enormous amount of overhead for what should be a managed product.

GBP pricing is the second pain point. The pricing page is in USD, your invoice is in USD, and you absorb the FX spread plus payment-card cross-border fees on every renewal. For learner-paid courses it's worse — UK learners see a USD checkout, abandon, and you lose conversions to no good reason.

Classentra ships UK GDPR-aligned data handling on every plan, an ICO-ready DPA on the public legal page, GBP checkout via Stripe, and optional UK/EU data residency on the Company tier. You don't write the bridge — the product already speaks UK out of the box.

What UK teams get

Six things a UK-first LMS should ship

Every feature below ships today. UK/EU data residency and signed bespoke DPAs are Company-tier add-ons — talk to sales for the procurement-reviewed deployment.

UK GDPR-aligned by default

Default data-handling posture aligns with UK GDPR + Data Protection Act 2018. Lawful basis, purpose limitation, data subject rights, breach notification — all documented in the privacy policy, not patched on via an enterprise addendum.

ICO-ready DPA, public

Data-processing agreement published on the legal page, drafted to ICO guidance. Most UK customers sign as-is or with light redlines. The Company tier also supports bespoke DPAs and full DPIA support for high-risk deployments.

GBP pricing + Stripe checkout

GBP-native checkout via Stripe. Subscriptions invoiced in GBP; VAT handled by Stripe Tax. No USD invoices, no FX spread on renewals, no cross-border card fees on the learner-facing checkout. Public pricing page lists GBP rates.

UK/EU data residency (Company tier)

Company-tier organizations can pin learner data to UK or EU hosting regions for residency requirements — useful for schools, NHS-adjacent training, and public-sector procurement. Live video routes through the nearest UK/EU edge for sub-100ms join latency.

Education-friendly content

Gradebook, rubrics, certificates of completion, parent reports, blended in-person + live-online sessions. Same product UK academies use to run GCSE prep, university-prep tutoring, music conservatoire enrolment, and corporate L&D.

No multi-year contract

Monthly and annual billing on public pricing — same as the rest of the SaaS world. No 3-year framework agreement, no procurement window, no implementation consultancy retainer. Cancel at any time; export your data in CSV.

FAQ

Common questions about running an LMS in the UK

Is Classentra UK GDPR-compliant?
We align our data-handling practices with UK GDPR + Data Protection Act 2018. Our privacy policy documents lawful basis, purpose limitation, data subject rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection), retention periods, and breach notification under the ICO's 72-hour expectation. UK GDPR compliance is ultimately the controller's (your) responsibility — Classentra is the processor — and we provide the DPA, documentation, and contractual commitments you need.
Where is my data hosted? Can I keep it in the UK or EU?
Default hosting is in the US (Vercel + Neon Postgres, North American regions) with standard contractual clauses for international transfers. UK/EU data residency — learner records, course content, and gradebook pinned to UK or EU hosting — is a Company-tier feature for organizations with residency requirements. Talk to sales for a residency-pinned deployment.
Can my DPO redline your DPA?
Yes. Our standard DPA is published on the legal page and most UK customers sign it as-is or with light redlines. For more complex deployments (multi-academy trusts, NHS-adjacent training, regulated industries) we negotiate bespoke DPAs on the Company tier with full DPIA support.
Is the pricing in GBP?
Yes. Visiting the pricing page from a regional CTA defaults to GBP pricing; Stripe Checkout invoices in GBP with VAT handled by Stripe Tax. The CTA appends a currency hint (?cc=GBP) so checkout starts in the right currency. No FX spread on renewals, no cross-border card fees on the learner checkout.
Will this work for an Ofsted-regulated independent school?
Yes — Classentra ships gradebook, attendance, parent reports, certificates, and blended in-person + live-online sessions used by independent schools, tutoring centres, and academies. Ofsted oversight of regulated providers is your responsibility; Classentra is the LMS, not a curriculum or inspection product. Talk to sales for a school-tier deployment with SSO and a custom DPA.
Can I migrate from Moodle, Canvas, or Thinkific?
Yes. CSV imports for users, courses, and gradebook; SCORM-1.2 ingest on the Company tier for legacy course packages; a Thinkific/Teachable migration tool for community-style platforms. For a complex Moodle migration with custom plugins, talk to sales — most UK customers rebuild high-impact courses inside Classentra so the live-session + auto-attendance flow works end-to-end.
